About Animal Hub Planet
Animal Hub Planet is an independent website for people who have started noticing the birds around them and want to understand what they are looking at. It is written for the garden, the balcony and the walk to work — not for expeditions.
What this site covers
How to identify a bird from shape, size and behaviour before worrying about colour; how garden feeding actually works and where it goes wrong; and what is known about how migration is triggered and navigated. Three subjects, treated properly.
What we are careful about
Feeding wild birds is genuinely contested territory. Done badly it concentrates disease and attracts predators. We describe the hygiene and placement that the ornithological organisations recommend, and we say plainly where the evidence is mixed rather than presenting one view as settled.
Who writes here
Articles are written and edited in-house by the Animal Hub Planet editorial team. We are not ornithologists. Our work is to read the published material of national bird organisations and research institutions carefully and to present it without exaggeration.
Accuracy and corrections
Every article lists the organisations behind it. Bird distribution and status change, so if something here is out of date for your country, tell us — the editorial policy explains how we handle it.
Languages
English, Portuguese and Spanish, complete in each. Species examples are chosen to be recognisable across regions where possible.
